Green Homes Grant

– how they work –

Here’s how the Green Homes Grant works, including latest details of which energy efficiency measures are covered.

The Chancellor last month announced that homeowners will be able to claim vouchers of up to £5,000 for energy-saving home improvements, with the poorest getting up to £10,000.

As part of a £2 billion Green Homes Grant announced for England, eligible homeowners will be able to use the vouchers to pay for environmentally friendly improvements.

How will the vouchers work?

In restrictions announced recently , energy efficiency measures allowed under the scheme are being divided into two categories: “primary” and “secondary”.In order to qualify for funding to cover secondary measures, home owners must first carry out one of the primary measures.
And, the amount of money offered by the government for secondary measures is capped at the amount the home owner claimed for primary improvements. So if you receive £1,000 towards primary upgrades, your grant for any secondary measures will be capped at £1,000.

How do I apply for a Green Homes Grant?

Applications for the Green Homes Grant Scheme will open in September and will take place via the Simple Energy Advice website. But you will need to obtain a quote from an approved installer.
The Simple Energy Advice (SEA) website will recommend some suitable home improvements to you. You will then need to obtain a quote from a local company who is accredited to do the work like Solar City LTD
If the works are deemed suitable, a voucher will be issued to you.

How Much are the Vouchers Worth?

Under the scheme, the government will pay at least two-thirds of the cost of home improvements that save energy, up to £5,000.
For example, if you were to have double glazed windows installed for around £2,000, then the government would contribute around £1,333 and the homeowner would pay around £666.
The poorest households will be eligible to receive up to £10,000 towards these improvements. And these poorest homeowners will not have to contribute anything to the cost.

How do I find a tradesperson?

You will need to have the works done by a tradesperson accredited to take part in the Green Homes Grant voucher scheme.
Our Company is accredited and can carry out all works for you. We will first do a survey of your house and then provide a quote which will need to be uploaded when applying for the grant voucher.
Once the works are agreed, vouchers will start to be issued from the end of September online, so work can commence.
